Light Will Come
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 69:13, Joshua 1:8
Our four year old son scampered into our bedroom at 6:45 a.m. one Sunday morning. “Mommy, the sun’s coming up.” I peeked out from under the covers, barely taking notice of the soft light, I mumbled and burrowed deeper under my covers as he went back to his room. As I closed my eyes again, I felt the Lord prompting me to get up for the sunrise. I laid there for a moment contemplating my obedience and then crawled out of bed. I walked down the hall and opened the door to his room, expecting to find him in bed, but his sweet little face was pressed up against the window in his room. He turned to me surprised, as if expecting me to order him back into bed. Instead, I joined him on the floor by his window and we began to wait together.
As we were waiting, my son asked, “Mommy, why does it take so long?” I thought about that for a second and said, “Well, good things take time, but it will be worth the wait.” In that moment I felt God gently whispering to me- believe that, it was for your benefit, not his. I let that settle in my heart for a moment and realized that I often want to rush through the journey to get to the end result. I’m not good at waiting or being fully present right where I am. Psalm 69:13 says, “But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord. At an acceptable time, O God, in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.” At an acceptable time. We must trust that God will answer us at the right time and often the right time may not line up with what we expect.
We watched in awe as a blazing sliver of orange made its way out from behind the mountain peaks, turning itself into a fiery ball, casting light in dark places. It was a beautiful, picture perfect sunrise. In my obedience of getting out of bed to see it, I felt God telling me to stop trying to rush the glory that He has planned and to be fully present on the journey. This part of the journey is where He is preparing us and changing us so that we are ready for what He has in store for us. Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all this is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Keep your focus on the Lord and His Word and you will find your path illuminated by His blazing light.
Reflection:
Think about your daily thoughts, are you trusting in the Lord and praying expectantly? Or are you rushing through life trying to make things happen faster than God’s timing allows? Write down the things that you’ve been trying to control rather than waiting for God’s perfect plan to unfold.
Prayer Points:
Ask God to help you relinquish control over any area of your life that you are struggling with. Pray that He will give you patience to wait on His timing. Ask for discernment so that you can be obedient in what He wants you to do today.
